The Sasha G.M. Shaikh Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to the Tufts University Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy student who best exemplifies Sasha’s dedication to improving the human condition.
Since 2013 scholarships have been given annually at the 2,500 level. Recipients of the scholarships work on improving women’s human rights and further Sasha’s belief in our responsibility to help empower the most vulnerable.
ALESSANDRA BUGES – SUMMER 2016
The 2016 recipient, Alessandra Buges, recently completed her internship with Harvard Immigration and Refugee Clinic (HIRC) working to help at risk individuals seeking asylum, those who have survived domestic violence.
ARAYA ARAYAWUTH – SUMMER 2015
Araya conducted an internship at the United Nations Action for Cooperation against Trafficking in Persons (UN-ACT). She engaged with local communities and governments in Southeast Asia to help prevent human trafficking, help victims, and punish the perpetrators of this crime.
JUNGWOO CHUN – SUMMER 2014
Jungwoo spent the summer in Seoul, Korea helping document and build awareness of current human rights issues in Southeast Asia.
SIDDHARTH DURGAVANSHI – SUMMER 2013
Siddharth worked in Washington, D.C. developing micro-finance lending to low-income women in India.
